RTWPA Theory Games — pupil-friendly information

The short version

This website is for practising music theory and musicianship. It only asks for the information needed to run your account and record your learning progress.

There is no chat, messaging, commenting or pupil-to-pupil communication on this website. You cannot upload photographs, messages or files, and there are no public pupil profiles.

What information is kept?

For a pupil account, the service keeps a display name or identifier, a username, secure password information, the link to the relevant teacher account, homework set through the site, and game progress such as completed activities and badges.

You do not need to provide an email address, telephone number, date of birth, home address, photograph, gender or school name.

Passwords

Your password is not stored in readable form. The website stores a cryptographic representation used to check that the password you enter is correct. You should still choose a password that you do not use for another service.

Who can see pupil progress?

A pupil can see their own homework and badges. The teacher account linked to that pupil can see the pupil's username/display name, homework and badges. Pupil information is not displayed publicly to other pupils.

Technical information

The website is hosted using Cloudflare. Like other web-hosting services, Cloudflare may process technical information needed to deliver and protect the website, such as IP addresses and request/network information.

The RTWPA Theory Games application does not use advertising, behavioural marketing, social-media tracking or geolocation, and it does not use pupil information to build advertising profiles.

How long is information kept?

Pupil account and learning-progress information is kept while the account is being used for teaching and while it is reasonably needed to maintain that learning record. If an account is no longer needed, the pupil, parent/carer or school can ask the teacher to arrange deletion. A formal automated retention/deletion system is still being developed during the current limited beta.

Questions or concerns

If you are a pupil and have a question about your information, please speak to your parent/carer, school or teacher rather than sending personal information through the website. The website itself does not provide a private messaging facility.

For schools and parents/carers

The service is currently being introduced on a limited beta basis. Its design principle is data minimisation: collect only what is needed to identify an account, authenticate access, assign educational activities and record progress.

No sensitive or special-category information is requested as part of a pupil account. The service is being reviewed against UK data-protection requirements and the ICO Children's code guidance as it develops.
